Winner of the Inaugural Alessi + Vogue Living Design Award, the NYC Design Prize (homewares) and the Tasmanian Design Award’s People’s Choice winner multiple years running, Anita Dineen has established herself as one of Australia’s foremost designers of beautiful homewares, jewellery and works in metal.

‘Design makes me tick and good or bad, I see it in almost everything. Be it mechanics or Marmalade, it’s the fine tolerances of quality and aesthetic that can make something ordinary extraordinary.

After starting her creative career as a jewellery designer, Anita began conceptualising beautiful homewares in 2009. Inspired by nature and a commitment to meticulous craftsmanship, she first created the Glide Gourmet Knife to solve the problem of heavy handled paté knives crashing on the floor. By inserting a twist into the form, the Glide gourmet knife instead has perfect balance enabling it to sit upright and making it easier to pick-up, for an effortless ergonomic feel.

After being awarded the Tasmanian Design Award for the Glide Gourmet Knife, Anita went on to create “Antechinus.” A Cheese Knife which again uses curvature to sit upright on its blade. “Antechinus” came to the attention of iconic Italian design house Alessi in 2015, and was subsequently licensed to them for international distribution.

Anita continues to innovate objects and spaces with recent forays into virtual and augmented reality.
